Why use this tool?

Why use this tool?

A lot of people need a track to sound a little different from the original: a guitarist who wants a fast passage slower, a singer who needs a backing track a few semitones lower, a learner who wants to hear a fast speaker again at a gentler pace, or someone making a sped-up or slowed version of a song. Doing this in a desktop editor means installing software and learning its menus. Here you open the page, drop in the file, listen while you move the sliders, and export when it sounds right.

How to use it

How to use it

  1. Step 1

    Add your audio file

Drag your file into the upload area or click Select File. MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, FLAC and M4A files up to 50 MB are accepted. The waveform appears when the file has been decoded.
  2. Step 2

    Set speed and pitch

Move the Speed / Tempo slider to make the audio faster or slower. To apply a pitch change, turn Maintain Pitch off and move the Pitch (Semitones) slider. You can also pick a preset such as Nightcore.
  3. Step 3

    Preview the result

Press the play button and keep adjusting while it plays. Use the seek bar to jump to any part of the track, and change Volume / Gain if needed.
  4. Step 4

    Render and download

Click Render & Export Audio and wait for the percentage to finish. Then click Download Processed Audio to save the WAV file. Use Change File to start over with another track.

What this audio pitch and speed changer does

This online audio pitch changer and speed editor takes one audio file and lets you change how fast it plays, how high or low it sounds, and how loud it is. You hear every change on the waveform player straight away, and when you are happy with the settings you render the audio and download it as a new file. Your original file is never modified.

How speed and pitch change together

The tool changes audio by resampling it, the same idea as speeding up or slowing down a tape or a vinyl record. Playing the audio faster makes it shorter and higher in pitch. Playing it slower makes it longer and lower. This means speed and pitch are linked in this tool: you cannot make a song faster while keeping the voices at exactly the original pitch, and you cannot shift the key while keeping the exact original tempo. If you need one without the other, a dedicated time-stretching editor is the right tool.

The controls, one by one

Speed / Tempo runs from 0.25x to 2x in steps of 0.05. Pitch (Semitones) runs from -12 to +12 in whole steps, which is one octave down or up. Volume / Gain runs from 0% to 200%. The Maintain Pitch switch is on by default. While it is on, only the speed setting shapes the sound, so the pitch slider has no effect. Turn it off to apply the semitone setting on top of the speed setting. Because both settings act on the same playback rate, a shift of +2 semitones also plays the track about 12% faster.

Presets for common edits

Normal puts every control back to its default. Nightcore sets 1.25x speed with +3 semitones and turns Maintain Pitch off, which gives the fast, high-pitched sound of a nightcore edit. Slowed + Reverb feel sets 0.85x speed with -2 semitones and turns Maintain Pitch off. It only slows and lowers the track; no reverb effect is added. After choosing a preset you can still move any slider.

Preview first, then export

The player uses your browser audio engine, so changes to speed, pitch and volume apply while the track is playing. You can also click the play button, drag the seek bar, and read the current time and total length. Export is a separate step. When you click Render & Export Audio, the tool renders the whole file in a background worker and shows a percentage while it runs, so the page stays responsive. When it finishes, a Download Processed Audio button appears.

Using it as an online audio pitch adjuster for practice

To hear a hard passage more clearly, drop the speed to 0.5x or 0.75x and replay it. The notes will sound lower as well as slower, which is normal for this method. To try a song in a different key, turn Maintain Pitch off, move the pitch slider up or down a few semitones, and listen. Since the tempo changes with the key, this works best for quick checks such as finding a range that suits your voice before you record a new backing track.

Features explained

Live preview with waveform

After you load a file, the tool draws its waveform and plays it with play/pause and a seek bar. Speed, pitch and volume changes are heard while the audio plays, so you can adjust by ear instead of guessing. The waveform is drawn from the first channel of the file.

Speed from 0.25x to 2x

The speed slider changes how fast the audio plays and how long the exported file is. Moving in 0.05 steps gives fine control for slowing a phrase or speeding up a recording. Remember that speed also changes pitch in this tool.

Pitch in semitones, up to one octave

The pitch slider works in whole semitones from -12 to +12. Each semitone is one note on a piano, so the setting is easy to relate to music. It applies only when Maintain Pitch is off, and it changes the tempo along with the pitch.

Volume from 0% to 200%

You can make a quiet recording louder or a loud one softer. Above 100% the loudest peaks can be clipped in the exported file, which sounds like distortion, so raise it gradually.

Quick presets

Normal, Nightcore and Slowed + Reverb feel set the speed, pitch and Maintain Pitch switch in one click. They are starting points, and you can adjust the sliders afterwards.

Background rendering with progress

Export runs in a Web Worker, so long files do not freeze the page. A percentage on the button shows how far the render has gone. Longer files take more time and memory.

WAV export

The processed audio is saved as a 16-bit PCM WAV file. WAV is uncompressed, so it opens in almost any player or editor, but it is larger than an MP3. Expect roughly 10 MB per minute for stereo audio at 44.1 kHz.

What can you use it for?

Slowing down a passage to learn it

Play a fast guitar solo, drum fill or vocal run at 0.5x to hear each note. The pitch drops with the speed, but the notes stay in the same order.

Finding a comfortable key for singing

Shift a karaoke or backing track down or up a few semitones and sing along to check whether it fits your range.

Listening to speech again at a slower pace

Language learners and people transcribing an interview can slow a recording to catch words they missed.

Reviewing long recordings faster

Speed up a lecture or voice memo to skim through it. Voices will sound higher at faster settings.

Nightcore and slowed edits

Use the presets as a starting point for a sped-up or slowed version of a song and export it as a WAV file.

Simple sound design

Lower the pitch of a voice or sound effect to make it deeper, or raise it to make it thinner, then export the clip for a video or game project.

Benefits

  • Nothing to install, and no account or sign-up step.
  • You hear speed, pitch and volume changes while the audio plays.
  • Pitch is set in semitones, which is easy to understand for musicians.
  • Export runs in the background with a progress percentage.
  • The audio file stays on your device.

Limitations

  • Speed and pitch are not independent. Speeding up raises the pitch, slowing down lowers it, and this tool has no time-stretching.
  • The Maintain Pitch switch does not keep the pitch fixed when you change speed. It only decides whether the semitone slider is applied.
  • When Maintain Pitch is off and you shift the pitch, the exported length follows the speed setting only. Lowering the pitch can cut off the end of the track, and raising it can leave silence at the end.
  • The Slowed + Reverb feel preset does not add reverb.
  • The maximum file size is 50 MB, and only one file can be processed at a time.
  • Extreme speed or pitch settings can sound rough, because the audio is resampled with simple interpolation.
  • The export is always WAV, so files are larger than the original MP3 or AAC. Long files need a fair amount of browser memory.
  • Volume above 100% can clip loud parts of the exported audio.

Privacy and security

The audio file you choose is read and decoded inside your browser, played through your browser audio engine, and rendered by a background worker on your device. The tool does not upload the file to a server. The download link for the processed audio is created locally in your browser.

Tips

  • Start with small changes. A step of 0.05 in speed or 1 semitone is already easy to hear.
  • Play the track and move the sliders while listening, then export only once you are happy.
  • Check the end of the audio after exporting, especially if you lowered the pitch with Maintain Pitch off.
  • Keep volume at or below 100% unless the original is very quiet.
  • If your player complains about the downloaded file name, rename the extension to .wav, because the content is WAV audio.
  • For very long tracks, cut the section you need first, then change its speed and pitch.

Frequently asked questions

Is this online audio pitch changer free, and do I need an account?

Yes, you can use it without an account or email. The page does not ask you to sign in before you export a file.

Does changing the speed also change the pitch?

Yes. This tool changes audio by resampling, so faster playback sounds higher and slower playback sounds lower, like a tape or record at a different speed. It cannot change speed while keeping the exact original pitch.

Can I shift the key of a song without changing its tempo?

Not with this tool. The pitch slider and the speed slider act on the same playback rate, so a shift of +2 semitones also makes the track about 12% faster. It is fine for a quick check of a different key, but not for keeping the tempo fixed.

What does the Maintain Pitch switch do?

It is on by default. While it is on, only the Speed slider affects the sound and the semitone slider is ignored. Turn it off to apply the pitch setting on top of the speed setting.

Which audio formats can I use, and what do I get back?

You can load MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, FLAC and M4A files, as long as your browser can decode them. The exported file is always a 16-bit PCM WAV.

Is my audio uploaded to a server?

No. The file is decoded, played and rendered in your browser, and the processed file is created on your device.

How big can the file be?

Up to 50 MB per file. Larger files are rejected with a message. Long files also need more time and memory to render and produce a bigger WAV file.

How much can I change the speed and pitch?

Speed goes from 0.25x to 2x, and pitch goes from -12 to +12 semitones, which is one octave down or up.

Why does the end of my exported file sound cut off or silent?

This can happen when Maintain Pitch is off and you shift the pitch. The exported length follows the speed setting only, so a lowered pitch can cut the end and a raised pitch can leave silence. Check the end of the file after exporting.

Where is the processed file saved?

Your browser saves it to its usual downloads location. The name starts with processed_ followed by the original file name.
