What this audio cutter does
How the lossless cut works
Choosing the exact start and end
Checking the selection before you download
Features explained
Waveform selection
You pick the range visually on the waveform instead of typing timestamps. This makes it easier to find a quiet gap, a beat or the start of a sentence. Dragging is not frame-perfect on very long files, so zoom-free precision depends on the width of your screen.
Draggable and resizable region
The selected region can be moved as a whole or resized from either edge. This is useful when you like the length of the clip but want it to start a few seconds earlier or later. Only one region is used at a time.
Live start, end and length values
The three readouts under the waveform update as you drag. They help when you need a clip of a certain length, for example a ringtone that must stay under a limit.
Play Selection preview
You can listen to the highlighted part before cutting. This saves a download-and-check cycle. Playback starts from the selection start; it is a preview only and does not change the file.
No re-encoding
The cut copies the audio data instead of compressing it again, so there is no extra quality loss. The trade-off is that the cut points can land on the nearest audio frame boundary, so the clip may start or end a fraction of a second away from the time you selected.
Same format as the original
The downloaded file keeps the extension of the file you uploaded. That is handy when a device or app only accepts one format, but it also means this tool does not convert between formats.
Automatic file name
The saved file is named Original_HQ_ followed by the start and end seconds and the original extension, for example Original_HQ_12.4s-45.9s.mp3. The name makes it easy to tell several cuts of the same track apart.
What can you use it for?
Phone ringtone or notification sound
Cut the chorus or a short instrumental part from a song you own and keep it in its original format.
Removing silence or noise at the start or end
Trim the first few seconds of a voice recording where you are setting up, or the tail where you reach to stop recording.
Clips from a longer recording
Take one answer from an interview, one topic from a meeting recording or one song from a long live set and save it as its own file.
Samples for video or music projects
Cut a short section of a sound effect or voice line so you can drop it into an editor without importing the whole file.
Smaller files to send
A shorter clip is smaller than the full track, which helps when a chat app or email limits attachment size.

Benefits
- The audio is copied, not re-compressed, so quality is not reduced by the cut.
- Waveform selection makes it easy to find the right part without typing timestamps.
- You can preview the selection before downloading.
- The output keeps the original format, so it works wherever the source file worked.
- No account or sign-up step is needed to use the tool.
Limitations
- Only one file and one selection at a time. This version does not merge or join audio files.
- Because the cut copies audio data, the start and end can shift slightly to the nearest audio frame.
- There are no fades, volume changes or noise removal, and the output cannot be converted to another format.
- The FFmpeg engine must finish loading before the cut button becomes active, which needs an internet connection and may take a few seconds on a slow one.
- The whole file is handled in browser memory, so very large files can be slow or fail on phones and older computers.
- If the cut fails, the button returns to normal without a detailed message. Try again, or reload the page and pick the file again.
Privacy and security
The audio file you choose is read and trimmed inside your browser, and this tool does not upload it to a server. The FFmpeg engine that does the cutting is downloaded from a public CDN when the page loads, so your browser needs an internet connection at that point. The download link for your clip is created locally on your device.
Tips
- Play the selection once or twice before downloading and listen to both edges of the clip.
- Choose a quiet spot between words or beats for the start and end so any small shift is not noticeable.
- If you need a different format, cut here first to keep quality, then convert the small clip in a converter.
- Keep the original file until you have played the downloaded clip and are happy with it.
- Wait until the cut button is enabled before pressing it; it is disabled while the engine is loading or a cut is running.
Frequently asked questions
Is this audio cutter free, and do I need an account?
Yes, you can use it without creating an account. The page does not ask for an email or sign-in before you cut a file.
Does cutting reduce the audio quality?
No. The tool copies the selected audio data without re-encoding it, so the clip has the same quality as that part of the original file.
Which audio formats can I use?
Any format your browser can play and decode for the waveform, such as MP3, WAV, M4A or OGG. The result is saved in the same format. Support for less common formats depends on your browser.
Is my audio uploaded to a server?
No. The file is processed in your browser. Only the FFmpeg engine is downloaded from a public CDN when the page opens.
Why does my clip start a little earlier or later than I selected?
The cut copies audio without re-encoding, so it has to start and end on audio frame boundaries. The difference is normally a small fraction of a second.
Can I join or merge audio files here?
Not in this version of the tool. It trims one file at a time. You can cut several clips separately and join them in an audio editor.
Can I convert the clip to another format, such as MP3 to WAV?
No. The output always has the same format as the file you uploaded.
Why is the Cut & Download button disabled?
It stays disabled until an audio file is loaded and the FFmpeg engine has finished loading, and again while a cut is in progress. If it stays disabled, check your internet connection and reload the page.
Is there a file size limit?
The tool does not set a fixed limit. Because the file is handled in your browser memory, the practical limit depends on your device. Very large files may be slow on phones.
Where is the cut file saved?
Your browser saves it to its normal downloads location. The name starts with Original_HQ_ followed by the start and end seconds.
